From Brass to Grass

A work in progress is making over my ugly brass kitchen hardware. I was thinking it might give my kitchen  a nautical/rustic sort of look by wrapping hemp string around the hardware. It's an easy way to make over the hardware without damaging it. I actually went way over the top with this project and found there were a lot of things I could do beyond wrapping them in hemp string. Since I was just "experimenting" I went a little wild to see how many ideas I could come up with. The product turned out to be pretty interesting.

1. Twine with pearls. FYI wrapping twine around a cabinet handle is not easy!
2. I had this bright idea to affix seashells to a popsicle stick (that I saved from being carelessly thrown away :) and then tying the popsicle stick to the hardware.
3. This was my mom's idea. Similar to the pearls but sequins with a jewel in the middle. Again, not easy to wrap the hardware!
4. More saving popsicle sticks from the landfill! If you couldn't tell from my Lets Give 'Em Something to Talk About post I looooove pearls. At this point I was getting better at wrapping the twine around tricky things.
5. Again, I used the popsicle stick as a mount. Did you know hot glue does not stick well to brass or perhaps metal in general?

And some more...
The top is my favorite wire ribbon simply wrapped around the hardware. I just wrapped it up like a Tootsie Roll!
The middle is my most rustic piece. My mom looked at me like I was crazy picking up twigs in the yard but it is different... and the flower adds a nice little touch.
Bottom: This is actually the first handle I did, before I started getting frustrated and burned with hot glue... kinda boring....

For kicks and giggles I did one simple bow. I never use this drawer, I am not sure of the long term practicality of a bow, but it's just tied to the handle.
So I have this side of my kitchen completed. Now I have to figure out how I will decorate the remaining brass on the other side.
